Facts and Events
I don't think Moses and Martha had a son John. He would have been in the 1850 census with them, but isn't. Perhaps this John is a nephew? There is what could be a J. B. Shoemaker living next to Moses and family in the 1850 Choctaw County, Alabama Census, family 570. He is with wife and children, age 31, born TN. Perhaps the birthdate I have for him is wrong? He's not listed with the other children in Moses' household. Name: Linda Stufflebean Email: dstuf@@worldnet.att.net< br> SHOEMAKER-WINN-TUCKER-SLAY - Looking for information on the family of John Shoemaker and Rebecca R. Winn who married about 1849. John died in 1869. Rebecca died after the 1880 census. Children include: Queen Victoria who married Thomas E. Tucker; Alice L. who married F.M. Tucker about 1870; Thomas Benton married Ann Slay; Fredonia, born about 1857; John S., born about 1859; James, born about 1862; Armenia, born about 1865 and Ernest, born about 1869. Need vital dates and spouses' names. Although Martha's will listed John Shoemaker along with her other children, there is no unidentified male with them in the early census records who could be John. We find a marriage record for John Shoemaker and Rebecca Whenn [Winn] dated 14 Aug 1848 in Washington Co AL, so he obviously cannot have been born in 1837. Either the birth date on the Findagrave memorial is wrong or two different Johns are being confused. The 1870 US Federal Mortality Schedules for Choctaw Co AL lists John Shoumaker, 46, married, b. AL, d. Nov, farmer, of softening of the brain. The 1850 census Choctaw County, AL, enumerated 26 Nov 1850, listed J B Shoemaker (31, M, planter. b. TN) and C C (31, F, b. TN) along with Jas J (12, M, b. AL), A M (9, F, b. AL), Asbery (6, M, b. AL), Lee M (3, M, b. AL), and Wm J (1, M, b. AL). They are known to be John B Shoemaker and his wife Charity Duckworth. Just how John B Shoemaker is related is unclear. Neither Moses Shoemaker nor his brother John had an unidentified son born about 1818/19. References
