Facts and Events
Moses and Martha Shoemaker had a daughter Mary Alexander who was mentioned in Martha's will dated 13 Aug 1884 and obviously alive then. The 1850 Kemper Co MS census listed William W Alexander (32, farmer, b. AL), Mary (26, b. AL), Matilda (6, b. AL), Philamena G (4, b. AL), Jeremiah (3, b. AL), and James (2/12, b. MS). The 1860 Sebastian County, Arkansas census listed Mary Alexander (37, b. AL) with husband and children Philliman (15, M, b. AL), Jeremiah (13, b. AL), James (10, b. MS), Martha (7, b. MS), and William (5, b. MS). The 1870 Lamar TX census listed Mary Alexander (48, HK, $100 personal property, b. MO) along with Teilman G (24, hand, b. MS), Martha (18, b. MS), William H (14, b. AR), Richmand (10, b. AR), and dau-in-law Marinda J (15, b. MO). They were living next to Adolphus Glisson 22 and his wife Martha (18, HK, b. MS). Mary was likely on the 1880 Lamar TX census as Mary Alexander (57, mother, widow, keeping house, b. AL, parents b. TN) in the household of her son [no 1st name given] Alexander (25, single, farmer, b. MS, parents b. AL). Also there were Mattie Grisson (28, sister, married, b. MS, parents b. AL) and Mollie Grisson (8, niece, b. AR, father b. AR, mother b. MS). There are records of a Mary Shoemaker marrying William Alexander in 1843, and the following census records appear to be of the same people. There was also a Mary Shoemaker who married a J.W. White on 12/27/1838 in Washington County, AL, but it appears she might still be living at home in the 1840 Census. Both Mary and William are possibly dead by the 1870 Census, because a William A. Alexander, age 15, born MS, and a Martha J. Alexander, age 18, born MS, appear with a Joseph Alexander, age 40 in the Sevier County, Arkansas Census, along with a Mary, age 86, and a Sarah C., age 12. The only thing is that all children are listed chronologically. References
