Facts and Events
John is named in his father's estate administration as John N. Morrow of Platte County, Missouri. On April 10, 1851, John N. Morrow "late a private in Captain Stockton's Company, 3rd Regiment, MIssouri Mounted Volunteers", received 160 acres in Platte County about five miles west of Parkville.[4] He later sold most of this land to his brother Samuel in 1853.[5] John's brothers Robert and Joseph were also in the 3rd Regiment, as was the husband of his brother Francis's widow. While another deed from 1850 suggests he was married to a woman named Nancy at that time, he was not married at the time of the 1853 deed. He married the widow Mary (Andrews) Noland on Aug. 29, 1856.[1]They had five children (and raised her son James from her prior marriage). They moved to Crawford County, Kansas in the mid-1860s. John died 2 Feb 1873, presumably in Crawford County.[1] He evidently still owned land in Platte County, because on 7 Jan 1889, Mary F. Hurst, wife of H.H., Mary J. Horsley, wife of B.D.; Ella Mudd, wife of L.D.; William Morrow and Carson Morrow, all heirs of John Morrow, deeded land near Parkville to the trustees of Park College.[6] While the trustees were granted leave to sell the land after Jan. 1, 1900, it remains part of the campus of Park University.
