Mary Anne MACFIE was born 16sep1807 in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, daughter of John MACFIE (b. abt 1757) and Margaret SHAW (26aug1762, Riccarton, Ayrs.-2feb1843, Irvine). Margaret was daughter of John Shaw (abt 1724-4dec1770 Riccarton) and Helen Sillar (abt 1729, Craigie, Ayrs.-14jun1796 (K. Sillars). Mary Ann MacFie died 1846 at Irvine; she was daughter of John McFie (b. 17nov1757, Irvine, son of Archibald McFie (abt 1735-1811) and Elizabeth Greig (1738-1809) (Elizabeth Gardiner, genesr). John d. before 1831. John Allan Rankin married Mary Anne, youngest daughter of late John Macfie, Glasgow, 31oct1831 (Glasgow Herald). John MCFEE married Margaret SHAW 25nov1783 in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire. In 1841 Margaret, presumably as a widow, lived at Rose Villa, Irvine, Ayrshire, with son Shaw, daughter Margaret (?) and John Shaw (born about 1788) (census). They had following children mostly in Kilmarnock: M John MACFIE was b. abt 1787 and d. 1868. John inherited from his uncle Sir James Shaw and became Sir John Shaw and lived at Whitehall, London (K. Sillars). F Margaret MCFIE was born 22jul1789; a Margaret McFie, born about 1794, lived at Rose Villa, Irvine, in 1841 (census). M Shaw MCFIE was born 3may1791; Shaw, born about 1796, lived at Rose Villa, Irvine, in 1841 (census). M David MCFIE was born 14jul1793. M James MCFIE was born 1oct1796 F Jean MCFIE was born 15jan1801 in Glasgow, Lanarkshire. F Mary Anne MACFIE was born 16sep1807 in Kilmarnock. Mary Anne married John Allan RANKIN (b. 24jul1803, Irvine). They are registered in the 1841 census. About 1770, calico printing was introduced to Kilmarnock by a Mr John MACFEE (MCFEE or MCFIE) and the first printworks was opened at Greenhill (or Greenholm) near the Riccarton bridge. The printwork buildings later became the Glencairn Flour Mill. John MacFee married the sister of one of Kilmarnock's most famous sons - Sir James SHAW. Their son, John MacFee changed his name to Sir John Shaw on inheriting his uncle's title. John died in 1868 (web). John MCFEE married Margaret SHAW 25nov1783 in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire.
