- John (eldest son of Jacob Leiter Sr), was b. ca. 1734, (two years earlier than the next oldest son, born in 1736. His father Jacob was living in Conestoa, Lancaster County, PA.
- Unlike his father, John Leiter remained in Lancaster County, PA. He is recorded as an early (1759) settler in the west end of Derry Township (Egle's Notes & Queries, 3-1-375. John also remained remained a Mennoite.
- On 20 Jan 1763, John Lighter, lent money to Jacob Bishop of Derry Twp. (land records of Lancaster Co.)
- John was named in his father's will, written 8 February 1764, in which he was give ten shillings "money of Pennsylvania".
- The name of John's first wife is unknown, other than her first initial was "B". They were likely married before 1758, when their oldest son, also named John, was born. John, son of John, renounced all claim to the real estate owned by his grandfather in 1791 in a document made in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania and filed in Washington County, Maryland.
- Another child of John and his first wife was apparently Joseph "Loiter, listed in the Census of 1790, Dauphin County, PA.
- John's seventh child was named Christian. He may be the Christian Leither, listed in the 1790 Census, Cocalico Township, Dauphin County. He may also be the Christian listed in the 1850 Census in Harrisburg, living with Jacob Boas, age indicating birth about 1775-77. If the age is right, he could not be the one in the 1790 Census. If the age is wrong, he might be both.
- In 1771 John Leiter, was taxed on 150 acres, Donegal Twp., Lancaster Co.
- John's second wife was named Catherine. She is listed as the mother of John's eighth child, Eve Margaretha, born 1 April 1776, shown by the record of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Lancaster, as a daughter of Johan and Catharine Lyder. (Pennsylvania German Society, vo. 4, p. 194)
