John C. Jaynes, Louis Jaynes' Grandfather, was born on 10 Nov 1823 in Pendleton District, South Carolina. By the time he was 15, he had already gone out on his own and was working as a farm laborer in Georgia. He married Martha Mulken1850 in Franklin, Georgia, and they had 5 children. He lived and taught school in Franklin County, Georgia in 1862. He is listed as a school teacher in the US Census for Big Smith, Franklin, Georgia in 1850. They were living in Martin, Franklin, Georgia in 1900. The family tradition said he went blind in his old age, but not indicated in the 1900 census. He died in 1908 in Hartwell, Hart, Georgia.
