John Holbrook was made a freeman in the colony May 13, 1640, hence was aged 17 and not 11 as given in the shipping list when he came over with his parents in 1635.

Captain in King Phillip's War. Holder of various public offices, property holder, lender.

Married first Sarah (d. Jan. 14, 1643/4, Weymouth, Norfolk Co., MA); second Elizabeth STREAM (b. 1624; d. Jun. 25, 1688), daughter of John STREAM and Elizabeth WHITMAN; and third Mary JACOB (b. 1637), widow of James OTIS, Jr. (d. about 1683), step son of Elizabeth (WHITMAN) STREAM OTIS. Thus, the second wife of John HOLBROOK was the step-sister of the first husband of John HOLBROOK's third wife.

There are few birth records for his children. None are clearly born before the death of his first wife in 1643/44, so it appears as Clapp says, "most if not all born of his second wife".

Sarah d. 14 Jan. 1644, but what ch. if any she had, are unkn. but ds. Lois, and Eunice, tw. are b. by the rec. 12 May 1658. By w. Elizabeth d. of that wid. John and six ds. and his own s. Ichabod, to wh. the homestead at W. is giv. his w. Sarah and three ch. Now to follow this num. brood may be diffic. and part of it eludes my long research. I presume the w. of Whitmarsh was Sarah; of Joseph Nash, Elizabeth and of Benjamin Ludden, Eunice; and that these three were his ds.
