Facts and Events
There is a John Fouts on the 1768 tax list in Rowan Co., NC. It probably isn't John Leonard Fouts. There are three John Fouts listed on the 1779 tax list for Randolph Co., NC: John Fouts Sr; John son of Michael Fouts; and John son of David Fouts. It is thought that John Leonard Fouts is the son of David Fouts, so that is probably him. That he was listed with his father on this tax list means he was probably still living at home, and probably not married yet, or not married very long. John Fouts is listed on the 1787 state census in Wilkes Co., NC:
John Fouts was still in Wilkes Co., NC for the 1790 census.
John Leonard Fouts doesn't appear on the 1800 census in North Carolina, or doesn't seem to. There are four John Fouts listed in Randolph County that year and one in Rowan. Those are probably different people. John Leonard Fouts seems to be dead before 1810 possibly in Ashe Co., NC. |
