Facts and Events
Catherine Shearer was born ca 1750/1755 per census analysis. Her birth place is unknown, and her parents are also unknown. What is the proof of her maiden name? No primary or secondary sources have been found showing she was a Shearer. Catherine was widowed sometime prior to 1810 (seemingly), for she appears to be living with her son Joseph Fouts on the 1810 census in Ashe County. It isn't certain at all that it is her living with him that year for names weren't given, only ages, and he did have a female aged 45 and up (born before 1765). That could be her. Catherine is listed as head of household on the 1820 census in Ashe Co., NC. Her presumed sons Jacob and Joseph were the only other Fouts listed in that county at that time. They weren't listed near her. She had people living with her, identities unknown.
Catherine is listed as head of household in 1830 in Ashe County. Her presumed sons Jacob and Joseph are also listed, this time nearby. There is also a Leonard Fouts listed, perhaps he is another son.
In the early 1830's Catherine, and her son Jacob and his family moved southwest to Macon Co., NC. She is listed there on the 1840 census as head of household. Her son Jacob is listed near her.
Catherine died in the 1840's, probably in Macon Co., NC. References
