Some people try to give this John the middle initial M. That is because there was a John M. Driver living in Mason, Ingham County, MI at the same time this John lived in Alaiedon Twp. (I do not know John M. Driver's ancestry - he was born in Connecticut, and is not a member of our family as far as I know.)

From Driver Memoirs, written by Byron Driver's family - from Joyce Bowers

... we were elected to help grandpa keep his garden weeded, taking turns. Though spotless (not the word weedless) surely was. We were happy with the dime he put in our hand or when he had not dime and a quarter appeared instead. He would say, "Here now, I'll give you a quarter this time and maybe next time I won't give you anything." Though Grandpa was a frugal man, when fall came he would pile his stone-boat high as it would hold with its abundance from his garden, and with one horse hitched to his load, every neighbor in the area was blessed early with his gifts.

This notice came in the local paper after his death:

John Driver, one of the oldest residents of Meridian Twp. and well known in this section of Ingham County, died in his home of cancer. Funeral services in the Adventist Church. Internment in the Leek Cemetery. Mr. Driver was 83 years of age.

... A gold watch came from [him to John Adam Driver, Byron's son].

... older Driver cousins (his name was Uncle Mose) from Ohio [I don't know who he would be]... Two other older Driver Ohio cousins came once to visit. They were Uncle Jake and Aunt Harriet Killian... They must have come by train to Meridian, as no one had cars yet. [She was a niece of John Wesley's.]
