In 1863 J. Stirling Donald of Cheltenham donated to Eastbourne a lifeboat, the “Mary Stirling” (website).When his daughter married in 1897 he lived at Cromwell Rd., London (Times, London). A family bible gives the data on his children (<http://www.4qd.org/BFB/Bibles/Stirling.html> family bible). Like his younger brother William, John apparently emigrated to Australia before 1850, returned to Britain and settled in Cheltenham before 1857.
