We find John, age 9, on the 1870 census with his parents in Walnut Twp., Polk Co., Ia .(p 421, fam #163/112)   On 1880 census, he is age 19, with parents, Grimes, Polk Co., Ia.(E D 175, p 586C, fam 219/223)  On 1900 census, Thompson Twp., Guthrie Co., Ia., we see John, 39 , a farmer.  Wife Nettie, 36, declares they have been married 9 years and she has born 4 children , all alive at this time, and in the home.(Ed 65, p 13A, fam#281/281) She declares on the 1900 census that her father was born in Ind., and her mother born in Ill. In 1910, they are in Waukee, Walnut Twp., Polk Co., Ia.  John, 48, is farming.  Nettie, 46, declares they have been married 20 years and she has born 4 children, all alive at this time and listed with their parents.(ED 20, p 10A,fam #181/185)  On 1920 census, we find John, 59, in Waukee, Dallas Co., Ia., managing a general farm.  With him is wife Nettie, "58", and still caring for adult children in the home, as well as his mother, Sarah, 76, a widow.(ED 21, p 8A, fam 187/189)  By 1930, John appears to have turned the farm rented farm over to son Raymond.  John is now 69, and declares he was 30 when first married.  I born Ia. to father born Del. and mother born Oh.  He has no occupation.  Wife Nettie, 68, reports she 29 when first married.  She was born in Ill. to father born Ind. and mother born Wisc. (ED 25-34, p. 5A, fam #98/99)
