Mr. Beck had been married three times, and was the father of three children, none of whom, however, were by his present wife, with whom he had lived 23 years, and had been a resident of Deshler for the past 13 years. Father Beck has been in very feeble health for the past three or four years and suffered untold misery up to the last. He was a kind, considerate man, loved and respected by all those who knew him. In his prime, Mr. Beck, was a great reader and was well-versed upon all subjects. The funeral will be held at the U. B. church in this city at nine o'clock Saturday morning, and the remains will be taken to Findlay for interment. OBITUARY: Another obituary, with more detail is found in the Four County Truth newspaper of 9 Nov 1900 - It reads - Obituary - John beck was born16 Dec 1819 at Chillicothe, Ross, O. Died at his home in Deshler, O. Nov 1, 1900; aged 80 years 10 months, 15 days. He was united in mariage with Mary Catherine Nail, March 31, 1845. To this union were born 12 childen, August 31, 1864 he was bereft by the death of his wife and left a widower with 11 children. May 30, 1867 he married Phebe J Walters. To this union 2 children were born. July 25, 1873 death again invaded the home and hew was left companionless. Oct. 8, 1877 he was united in marriage with Leah Jane Early, who survives him. He leaves a wife, 12 children, grand-children and great grandchildren to mour their loss. He united with the United Brethern church in 1849 and continued in the faith to the time of his death. He was a good man, a good citizen. He has gone to his reward, an inheritance in the world beyond. Those attending the funeral from out of town were: Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Smith, of Findlay; Mrs. Marshal Beal and Darwin Beck of Weston; Mrs Tod Moore and niece of Bowling Green; Wm. Beck and daughter, of Bowling Green; Mr. and Mrs James Smith of Toledo; Mr. Shockey of Holgate; Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Earley, Benjamin Shockey and daughter, near Custar; Mr. and Mrs. S. S. Folk and Mr. and Mrs. Gustion, of near Haskins. NAME: Most sources gave his name as John Beck. The death record and obituary both give John N. Beck. What does the N stand for? RELIGION: United Brethren is the U. B. church in the obituary. BURIAL: No exact location is known. His last wife is buried in Maple Grove Cemetery in Findlay, Hancock, OH. Next to her is a grave where M Beck who died 3 Nov 1900 is buried. There is no record of M Beck's burial and there is no stone for Mary or M Beck. Adjoining graves are for family members of Mary so it is likely this is where John was buried. _FSFTID: KJWL-ZSR _COLOR: 11 |
