°° Married second at Ferndorf on 30 Apr 1623 to Elsgen Winckeln, Daughter of Heilman Winckeln, christened Fer 2da pent (2nd day of Pentecost ?) 1612 at Ernsdorf, Kreuztal. His brother-in-law, Clauss Moncker (Müncker), still single vorm Berge (a location in Ferndorf, Kreuztal).

The following is a deed record found at Stift Keppel, a monastry about 10 miles from Kreuztal, today part of the town of Hilchenbach. I will first insert the German text and then my partial translation (done with help of cousins in Europe) below that:

[Stift Keppel Urkunde 268 vom 8.2.1627: Johann Velten von Wischell zu Langenau und seine Frau Caspar Margret vom Bruch verkaufen Johannes Hofman zu Ernstorff und dessen Frau Cathrin zwei Wiesen bei dem Hohensteege in Ernstorffer Mark, von denen die unterste 352 1/2 Ruten, die andere 467 1/2 Ruten groß ist, wie sie ihr verst. Vater Eustachius von Graf Johann erhalten hat (Nr. 264). Weil die Käufer die Wiese untenher mit Riegeln bis an die Mahlsteine beim Mühlengraben zuzumachen vorhaben, sollen sie auf ihre Kosten in den Riegeln ein Tor machen, damit der Verkäufer, so oft er an dem Mühlenteich auf der Lippe zu bauen hat, durch das Tor mit Holz, Steinen und Braßen zu dem Deich fahren kann. Der Kaufpreis beträgt 1845 Rädergulden.]

[Stift Keppel certificate 268, 8 Feb 1627: Johann Velten of Wischell to Langenau Caspar and his wife Margaret vom Bruch, sell John Hofman of Ernstorff and his wife Cathrin two meadows in the High Steege in Ernstorffer Mark, the lowest of which 352 1/2 rods, the other 467 1/2 Rod is great as they received their "verst." Father Eustace of Count John (No. 264). Because buyers are going the meadow "untenher" with ties to the millstones close down the mill stream, they will make their money in the bars, a goal that the seller, as often as he has to build on the mill pond on the lip, through the gate with wood, stone and bream can drive to the dyke.. The purchase price is 1845 Rädergulden (former German currency – with a wheel at one side. The wheel is a symbol for the city of Mainz resp. the bishop of Mainz.]

Johannes and Cathrein Catharinen Catharin MONCKER (the daughter of Tilman MONCKER ) were married 23rd Sunday after Trinity Sunday in 1610. Church Records show births and deaths for the following children of Johann Hoffmann, the younger (and probably of his 1st wife Catharin Moncker):

1. Johannes HOFFMAN was born in 1614. Johannes was christened in Trinity Sunday in 1614 at Ferndorf. Johannes died March 2, 1679 at parish of Ferndorf, suburb of Kreuztal, Germany.

2. Johann Jost HOFFMAN, sponsor Jost Irlen from Irlenhoffe of Ferndorf, was christened Dom Septuag in 1617. Johann Jost, young son of Johann Hoffmann the younger, was buried August 10, 1624 at Ernsdorf, small village in Ferndorf parish, today suburb of Kreuztal, Germany.

3. Johann or Johannes HOFFMAN was christened Dom Exaudi in 1619 at Ernsdorf. Sponsor was Johannes Muncker vor der Tieffenbach. Johann was buried March 29, 1625 at Ernsdorf, small village in Ferndorf parish, today suburb of Kreuztal, Germany.

4. Cathrein HOFFMAN, young daughter of Johann Fischelbach, the younger, was buried August 22, 1624 at Ernsdorf, small village in Ferndorf parish, today suburb of Kreuztal, Germany.

Beginning with the 5th child of Johann Hoffmann, the younger, Church Records show the deaths of the following children of Johann Hoffmann, but it is not known which wife was the mother of these children:

5. Young Daughter HOFFMAN died April 14, 1635.

6. Child -d. of plague- HOFFMAN died April 27, 1635.

7. Young Son -d. of plague- HOFFMAN died April 27, 1635.

8. Child -d. of plague HOFFMAN died April 27, 1635.

The records for the following children do not indicate the mother's name, however, the ages and dates give us an indication they are the children of Johann Hoffmann and his 2nd wife, Elsgen Winckein.

9. Anna HOFFMAN and Johann Jacob SCHMIDT were married March 11, 1652 at Ernsdorf, small village in Ferndorf parish, today suburb of Kreuztal, Germany. Johann Jacob Schmidt was a son of Johannis Schmidt, Reverend and highly respected local, and Rendtmeister (person in charge of financial affairs) of Nassau Katzenellnbogen – a tribe of the nobal family of Nassay, located at Katzenellnbogen, and Rendtmeister to Siegen and Hilchenbach.
