Janeen Pape, 65, of 1016 Garfield Ave., died Friday, Oct. 29, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the Rev. Tom Zinkula officiating. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 1, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, where there will be a wake service at 7:30 p.m. She was born on June 9, 1945, in Cascade, Iowa, daughter of Vern and Rita (Donovan) McCarthy. She graduated from Western Dubuque High School. She married Donald J. Pape Jr. on June 8, 1985, at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, Iowa; he preceded her in death. She worked for Interstate Power Co., later Alliant Energy, until retirement, and later worked as a medical transcriptionist. She loved to crochet and made countless hats and mittens, many of which she donated to the needy. Surviving are her siblings, Patsy O'Connell and Arlene (Dick) Henneberry, both of Bernard, Iowa; her children, Jeff (Ellen) Heim, of Greenwood, Ind., and Jennifer (Galen Galler) Ary, of Tucson, Ariz.; grandchildren, Celeste and Vincent Heim and Max Ary; stepchildren, C.J. (Nancy) Pape, Brian Pape and Daniel (Mindee) Pape, all of Dubuque, and Suzanne Pape, of Woodward, Iowa; stepgrandchildren, Samantha, Tanner, Kyle and Danielle Pape; an uncle, Bishop Paul Donovan, of Kalamazoo, Mich.; and two aunts, Lucille (Clifford "Shorty") Donovan, of Epworth, Iowa, and Sister Maureen Donovan, of Bay City, Mich.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She also was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Jack McCarthy. The family requests no flowers; a Janeen Pape Memorial Fund has been established. Janeen's family would like to thank Dr. Hendrik Schultz and the nurses and CNAs at Mercy Hospital 3 West for all the care and kindness they gave to her.
