James is attached to his parents on the basis of being recorded as "of Bridgham" at the time of his marriage. Although the dates are not exact matches, it is the best fit found to date. Assuming these connections to be correct, he seems to have moved to South Lopham shortly after his mother's death, at which point his father's will directed that he should receive £50 from his eldest brother John. This would have given him the financial independence to set up on his own elsewhere and there is evidence of his owning land, which was quite unusual, by 1817.

1770 - Baptism: James the Son of William & Catherine SEARE baptized privately Dec 9th, publicly Dec 27th.

1791 - Would have been due to inherit £200 from his father's estate. Prior to this the sum would have been invested, with the interest used at the executors' discretion and the principal may have been used to secure an apprenticeship.

1791 - Witnessed the marriage of Thomas BUCKENHAM and Mary FISK at North Lopham.

1793 - Of Bridgham when he married. Surname spelt "SARE".

1795 - On the death of his mother, his father's will directed that his eldest brother John would pay him £50.

1813 - On the baptism certificate for Thomas, the family's name was spelt "SAIR". James' occupation is recorded as farmer.

1817 - Listed as owning and occupying freehold land in South Lopham, qualifying him to vote. (Norfolk Poll Book)

1841 - Living on the Common, South Lopham with wife. Of independent means. Household shared with Mary WALLIS and her probable daughter Eliza. Surname recorded as SARE.

1845 - According to the burial register William's age at death was 77, while the death certificate records it as 76. The death certificate indicates that he died of Pneumonia. The death informant was Charlotte Diggon [relationship unknown]. James was buried with his wife, and several of their children were buried in the same row of graves.

James and Margaret have a double gravestone which is made of granite with cherubs at the top. It is inscribed: "Sacred/ to the memory of/ JAMES SARE/ who died/ April 30th 1845/ in the 76th year of his/ age./ Farewell ______/ And now______/ ________/ ________/ MARGT. Wife of/ J. SARE/ who died/ Novbr. 5th 1843/ in the 73rd year of her/ age/ The time we have allowed us here/ We greatly ought to prize/ And strive to make salvation/ Before death close our eyes." The footstone is also double, made of sandstone, and is insribed: M:SARE /1843 J:SARE /1845. (From a transcription made by the Women's Institute)
