In an Ancestral File, sumitted by Eugene Brenner, James' mother is given as Mahaley George bn abt 1785 in Ohio. On the IGI there is a Mahala George married to an Abijah Reed on 27 May 1819 in Hamilton, Ohio Karri Pikula has James born on 14 Mar 1820 while Alice Chambers has him born on 14 Mar 1817. If his parents are Abijah & Mahala Reed, then the first date is most likely, esp as his age is 39 in the 1860 census, making him born abt 1821. The Biographical History of Tippecanoe etc Vol 1 page 710 says he was a pioneer of Wabash, Indiana, born in Ohio, of Irish and German descent. However his son Alfred in the 1880 census says his father was born in Kentucky!
