Facts and Events
From notes by Terry Reed: Alpheus was a twin brother to Alfred Reed. According to the family story, the brothers drove a stage coach on the line between St Joseph Missouri and Wathena Kansas. They were also supposed to have played marbles and caroused with the James brothers (Frank and Jesse) while in Missouri. His address at the time of his marriage was Clarkeville IA. Lived in Kansas from 1881 - 1891. Was 7 years in Iowa. Then moved to Glenwood Minnesota in 1905 and to Alexandria MN in 1910. Alpheus died after suffering from heart disease for 5 years plus some intestinal problems for a year. He made his own headstone from a 10" x 3' piece of a tree, cut on a 30' angle and varnished. |
