    James Reed, s/o William and Avis Reed, b. probably at Weymouth near 1657; enlisted as a solider from Weymouth in King Philip's War 1675-76, married at Taunton, and resided in Middleborough.

    Interesting note: He and his brother were cutting trees on the Weymouth Common, contrary to town orders, and was fined twenty shillings. In a huff he moved to Taunton for twenty-five years, then to Middleborough. In Weymouth, he served in Capt. Johnson's company during King Philip's War.
    [This may be an interesting story, but it appears to be half-wrong. James was fined in 1680, but appears to have gone to Taunton only to get married in 1683. There are no births of children recorded for James and Susannah in Taunton, and as early as 1686, there are children recorded for them in Middleborough. This hardly represents a 25 year stay in Taunton. If Reed analyzed his family assuming a 25 year stay in Taunton, it is possible that he made other errors which children are theirs?]
