James MCINTOSH was born 2mar1831, married 12apr1866 in Milton, Glasgow (marriage register) Stuart BELL (13jan1841-4jun1936) and died, sometime after a carriage accident, on 24jul1880 (family letters). James d. Craigmore, Bute 24jul1880 age 49 (memorial stone of Peter McIntosh (1795-1872), Glasgow necropolis).

James was in the 31st Lanarkshire Rifle Volunteers and lived before his marriage, as a leather merchant, at 6 Carlton Pl., Glasgow (marriage register) and afterwards at 26 Burnbank Terrace in 1875. James worked as a leather merchant, apparently in his father’s firm, Peter McIntosh and Sons, Glasgow (legal document), which was situated at the foot of the Bridgegait (Alistair Lindsay). Before her marriage Stuart lived with her family at 4 Windsor Terrace, Glasgow. There were 2 Windsor Terraces, one in Woodside and another, now Kirklee Terrace, in Kelvinside, further from Glasgow centre. Stuart lived at Windsor Terrace, St. George’s Road, which is in Woodside (1866 PO dir). Peter Sinclair (1840-1891), the cousin of Stuart's future husband, married at 4 Windsor Terrace in 1863.

In 1871 Stewart McIntosh (b.1842, Cathcart, Renfrewshire), James McIntosh, leather merchant (head, b. 1831, Glasgow) lived at Ashton Rd., Green Bank, Sea View, Inverkip, Renfrewshire, with mother in law Elizabeth Barton (b. 1814 Lanarkshire) and children George B. McIntosh (b. 1868 Glasgow) and Grace McIntosh (b. 1870 Lanarkshire) (census). James McIntosh resided at 26 Burnbank Terr., Glasgow, 1872-80 (glasgowwestaddress).
