James Lumsden Masterton, Bank of Scotland, Rothesay, son of Rev. W. Winter, M.A., Ascog, at Ascog Free Church (Scotsman, G. Masterton). Dr. Hewison gave a copy of his book “Bute in olden times” to James. (1868), Grace A. H. (1870), Elizabeth B. (1875), James Stuart (b. 1878 Rothesay), mother Elizabeth Bell (widow, b. 1815 Glasgow), uncle Philip Barton (b. 1810 Glasgow) and 1 servant lived at Craigmore House, Rothesay, Isle of Bute (census). In 1891 Stuart McIntosh (b. 1842) lived on private means at 17 Comely Bank, Edinburgh, with James Stuart (b. 1878) and 2 daughters (census). In 1896 Mrs. MacIntosh lived at 22 Craigmore Rd., Rothesay (Slater’s Directory of Scotland). Old Craigmore House, 22 Craigmore Road, Rothesay, is on the coast south of Rothesay. The boat house and presumably the house were built in 1837, probably designed by the architect David Hamilton (1768-1843) for David Bell (b. 1792). Later Stuart McIntosh nee Bell and Elizabeth Barton Masterton nee McIntosh (b. 1875) lived there. Craigend House, 23 Craigmore Rd., Rothesay, presumably built after 1851, was the home of Margaret Reid nee Bell (b. 1796). Undercliffe is 20 Craigmore Road., as Glenarch stood between Old Craigmore and Undercliffe. Benjamin Barton Bell (b. 1840) lived at Undercliffe.
