Peter MCINTOSH (3oct1795-15dec1872, family letters, christened in Crieff, Perthshire, as Peter CRERAR 4oct1795, IGI), and Grace HOLMES (29jan1804-27jul1875) were married 29mar1829 in Irvine, Ayrshire, and 30mar1829 in Glasgow, Lanarkshire. Peter was a currier and (information from A. Lindsay) leather merchant (A. Lindsay)(marriage register) resident (according to the 1841 census) in Abbotsford Place, Glasgow, or tanner and currier (legal document), resident at 14 St. James Terrace (now Ruskin Terrace), Glasgow (family letters); his firm, which was continued by his sons James and Robert, was called Peter McIntosh and Sons, Glasgow and was situated at the foot of the Bridgegait (A. Lindsay). Grace was daughter of John HOLMES (born 20mar1779 (IGI), died 1859/1860, family letters) of the Wheatsheaf Inn, Main St./High St., Irvine, (A. Lindsay/Pigots directory) and Agnes RANKINE (born 1771). According to the 1841 census they lived with John Holmes (b. about 1821, currier and leather merchant, probably Grace’s brother) and Isabella Longmuir (b. about 1821, probably Grace’s half sister) and 2 servants.

Grace HOLMES was born 29jan1805 in Irvine (IGI) or 29jan1804 (a letter and A. Lindsay) and died 27jul1875. There is the will in Scottish Archives of “Grace McIntosh alias Holmes, widow of Peter McIntosh, farmer and carrier in Glasgow” registered Glasgow 1jan1876. Peter’s firm, which was continued by his sons James and Robert, was called Peter McIntosh and Sons, Bridgegait, Glasgow (legal document and A. Lindsay). Grace Holmes d. 27jul1875 aged 71 (memorial stone of Peter McIntosh (1795-1872), Glasgow Necropolis).
