[edit] Information on James GrayFrom "Virginia and Virginians" By Robert Alonzo Brock, page 726: "The Gray family were early seated in Virginia, coming from Ireland. James Gray, grandfather of John T., was born in Augusta County, and later removed to Russell County, where his son John was born, the father of John T. John Gray married Polly, daughter of Jacob and Nancy Leece, who were of English descent and came from Baltimore to Russell County. John T. was born in Lee County, Virginia, on January 9, 1838." Note from Ancestry Message Board: According to one family tradition, James Gray was born in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, 1765,and came to America at a young age. By Alexander McFarland putting up the money for the marriage bond, it has been thought that James Gray's father may have already been deceased by 1787 and that Alexander McFarland was a close kinsman. James & Elizabeth Doran Gray's first child (my 3xGrt Grandfather) was named Alexander McFarland Gray (1788 Augusta Co., VA-1859 Scott Co., VA). [edit] CitationsReferences
