Early Land Acquisition in Augusta County, VA

Acquisition of Land in Orange/Augusta County, VA:

James Givens was most likely the James Givens mentioned in the following early survey in Orange (later Augusta) County, VA:

James Givens, early survey as follows: (27) May 11th, 1738, survey for Ja(mes) Givins, beginning at (John, see 29). Young, beginning at Tumble's Cor., Back Kreek. Sam. Walker's Cor., McAnaar's line.

Note: This James Givens would have been the only James Givens among the early Givens migrators to have reached adulthood by 1738. Since James Givens (based upon sketchy records) apparently died in 1746 in North Carolina, it is assumed that he did not stay long in the Orange/Augusta County VA area and migrated within a few years to North Carolina.

Page 15.-- 10th February, 1745-6. James Givvons (order book says James Givens) to Hugh Ross, £10 Pennsylvania money, 170 acres on west side Cathey's River called Walker's Run, Benjamin Allen's road. Acknowledged, 10th February, 1745.
