Lived At Beatty's Ford, NC In winter Of 1780-81 when Cornwallis & staff stopped and ate breakfast at his house. He had five son serve in Revolutionary War. He let NC soon after 1790 and moved to KY. Provisions of his will in Lincoln Co., KY follow.

- JOHN GIVENS - Book B, page 85 - To wife, Rebecca. To two oldest sons, Samuel and John Givens. To my sons, Robert, James and Allen. To my son, Eliezer. To son, Robert's daughter, Sarah Mitchell Givens. Exec's., Sons, Robert and Eliezer. Written Apr. 19, 1794. Witnesses, John Magill, Wm. Magill, Sarah Campbell. Probated July 15, 1794. Will of John Givens
- Legatees, My beloved wife Rebecca one negro wench her life time, one cow and calf and bed and furniture and mare known by name of Blue Mare and her living off the land while she lives and all the kitchen furnitures at her disposal. Two oldest sons, Samuel and John Givens, one dollar each. Robert, James and Allen Givens five pounds each . To Elizer Givens my son 100 acres of land, the land bought lately of Mr. Lawless, to him and his heirs forever and all the plantation, utensils, with all my other personal estates and of the abovenegro wench's broods to the number of 3 children during my wife's lifetime, I do order that my son Robert's daughter shall have the oldest, and the next to my son James and the next to Allen Givens and the said wench to my son Elizer at his mother's death. Executors my sons Robert and Elizer. 19 April 1794. Proved 15 July 1794.
A Mrs. Amelia Givens Notes a son , Thomas, who was not mentioned in the will as he was deceased.
