    James Thomas "Tommy" Frakes, Steele businessman and City Clerk, died April 30, 1971, at Pemiscot County Memorial Hospital after brief illness. He entered the hospital April 29 and apparently suffered a stroke about 2:00 a.m. the next day.

    Mr. Frakes was in the insurance business, associated with Bernard Insurance Agency for 21 years. He also served as City Clerk for the City of Steele, a position he had held for 14 years.

    The son of Albert and Ella Young Frakes, he was married to the former Imogene Hollenbeck September 12, 1938, in Steele. They lived at 331 Missouri Street, Steele.

    Mr. Frakes was a member of the Church of Christ, Steele.

    Interested in community and youth, Mr. Frakes was instrumental in beginning the Little League Baseball program in Steele.

    Services were held Sunday, May 2, 1971,at 2:30 p.m. at the Church of Christ in Steele, Judson Woodbridge and the Rev. James F. McCrary officiating. Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery, German Funeral Home in charge.

    Pallbearers were Beaumont Smith, Woodrow Davis, Quentin Still, Paul Cooper, Gus Cooper, and Olan Johnson.
