  8. ↑ The ship record for the St James only includes Mary (see her page for the source citation), Robert and Ellen Bruce with the correct corresponding ages. I believe that James was missed when the list was compiled and that Alexander arrived ahead of the rest of the family on a separate ship. James recorded an immigration date of 1839 on his 1900 census record. Since he was only 3 at the time (1839), and he wouldn't have come alone, he either arrived with his father (unlikely) or he arrived with his mother and siblings (more likely).
