At time of marriage he was a teacher; 1910, a school superintendent; 1920, a merchant; 1930, manager of a grocery store; and 1940, a postmaster. In 1910 they lived in Barry County, Michigan, and thereafter in Spring Lake, Michigan. In 1940 his mother-on-law was living with them.

Obituary

Jacob Earl Whitcomb, 60, former Spring Lake postmaster died suddenly of a heart attack at his home in Spring Lake at 8 p.m. Sunday. He was born in Hogland, Ind., Aug. 18, 1883, and has been a resident of this community for the past 30 years. He was a member of the Spring Lake lodge, No. 234, F. and A.M., and was formerly in the dry goods and notions business at Spring Lake.

 He is survived by his wife, Lydia; one son, James Charles Whitcomb of Lansing; and a sister, Mrs. William Leahy of Mt. Pleasant.
