Jacob A. Tinker was born in Cox Creek township, Clayton county, Iowa, Aug. 28, 1872, and died Feb. 3, 1918, aged 45 years, 5 months and 6 days. He was the oldest son of Joseph and Mary Tinker. His father died when Jacob was seventeen. He was the mainstay of his mother until his marriage, after which time he worked the old home farm for a time. He was married Nov. 20, 1894, to Miss Genevieve Ivory. To this union ten children were born, all of whom were at his bedside at his death, except a son, Jacob John, who died in infancy. His children are Cyril, Clarence, Edward, William, Lloyd, Daniel, Genevieve, Catherine and Julia Irene, a noble family whose industry and loving kindness will so greatly lessen the trials of the sorrowing wife and mother. Besides his wife and children, he leaves his mother, Mrs. Mary Tinker of Monona; three brothers, Joe and John of Strawberry Point, and Dr. Frank Tinker of Spillville; and three sisters, Mrs. Mary Olinger of Chamberlain, S.D., Mrs. Rose Olinger of Strawberry Point, and Mrs. Anna Whittle of Monona. Funeral services were held here at Sacred Heart church. Father Casey officiated, singing the Requiem Mass assisted by members of the Sacred Heart choir. The pallbearers were his six sons. The relatives attending the funeral from a distance were his mother and sister Mrs. Anna Whittle of Monona, Mrs. Martin Fizpatrick, Wenzel Seigel and Lawrence Boland of Greeley, PJ Maher and daughter, Miss Marie, Francis Kennedy and William Boland of Elkader, and a cousin, J.F. Victori of Britt. Jake, as he was familiarly called, will be long missed in the community where he was born and spent his life, not only by his faithful wife and children, but by a host of friends who, by knowing him, knew his worth. May he rest in peace.
