NEGHR Vol 63 Page 277 "Genealogical Research in England"

The will of "Isaak Mixer of Cabell in the County of Suffolk, weaver", dated 21 March 1641, proved 24 May 1642. "Aged and sickly of body". "First I give unto my sonne, Isaac Mixer, in New England 40s." Also names daughters - Briden [i.e., Jane m. Joseph Briden], Lodg [i.e., Elizabeth m. Mr. Lodge], Francis, Sarah, Amie [elsewhere Amy], and Dorothee. Also names sons John and George. George sole executor.

"Isaac Mixer of Capel, England and Watertown, Massachusetts, was baptized at Capel, 3 Oct 1602, and died, probably in Watertown, between 8 May and 19 June 1655. He married at Capel, 11 May 1629, Sarah Thurston , born about 1599 or 1600, and with her and their son , Isaac sailed for New England from Ipswich a0 April 1634. He settled at Watertown where he was a prooprietor in 1636 and freeman 2 May 1638. His widow died 24 Nov 1681,

BIOGRAPHY: Isaac Mixer was on the earliest list of proprietors of Watertown, February 1636/7. He was admitted a freeman, May 2, 1638. He was Clerk of the Training Band, April 4, 1654, and he was chosen a selectman in 1651 and 1655.

EMIGRATION: Isaac Mixer, age 31; his wife Sarah, age 33; and their son, Isaac,age 4 years; embarked at Ipswich, Suffolk, England, for New England, April 10,1634. The ship was the "Elizabeth" and William Andrews was its master.

WILL: Will of "Isacke Mixture, of Watertowne", dated 8 May 1655, probated 19 Jun 1655 (inventory 15 Jun 1655), mentions his wife (not named); his son, Isaac; and "my dau. Sarah, the wife of Jno. Sternes". To his daughter he gave, among other things, "half my part in that vessell called the dilligence." (See NEHGR, p. 19:42.)

Founders of Watertown, MA

Located along the Charles River, Watertown was one of the first settlements in Massachusetts Bay Colony. After a brief stay by Roger Clapp and others who then went on to settle Dorchester. In late July 1630, Sir Richard Saltonstall led a group of about 115 households to settle at Watertown, which at the time included parts of present-day Cambridge and much of the surrounding area; the population approached Boston's in the mid 17th century. In 1632 the residents of Watertown protested against being compelled to pay a tax for the erection of a stockade fort at Cambridge; leading to the establishment of representative government in the colony.
