Obituary

DEATH CALLS OLD SOLDIER TO REST ARMISTICE DAY -- Henry Corl Passes Away in Grover Avenue Home on Sunday. --
The ranks of the Civil War veterans are rapidly thinning and this week another faithful member dropped out when Mr. Henry Corl of this city and recently of Elwell, passed away after an illness of some duration.
Mr. Corl was 83 years and three months of age, and his life was a long and strenuous one. Born in Youngstown, Ohio, in 1844 he grew to young manhood in time to take part in the Civil War and with many other northern men he went through many engagements but came out safely to resume life as a civilian. Later he came to Michigan and with his wife established a home near Elwell where they with the children, who came to them, lived for many years.
Fifteen years ago Mr. Corl retired from active farming and remained in the home community until about three years ago when with his wife he came to Alma and made a home on Grove avenue. There he passed away on Sunday after months of ill health.
The funeral was held at Elwell on Wednesday afternoon and every honor was given the deceased. Rev. Horton was in charge of the service, Mr. Davis and Mr. Crooks carried the flags and the body was also escorted by honorary pall bearers from the Women's Relief Corps, Maccabees, and Rebekahs. Burial was made in Seville cemetery.
Mrs. Corl with three daughters and one son, also many other relatives and friends survived the aged soldier.
