Dr. Robert COWAN was Professor of Medical Jurisprudence and forensic medicine at Glasgow University. His mother was Helen MCCAUL, daughter of Dr. John MCCAUL, (1725-1797), Minister of the Tron Church, Glasgow from 1782 to 1797; she married on 14jan1795 in Glasgow and died 8dec1825 in Barony parish; his father was Dr. Robert COWAN, surgeon at the Royal Infirmary from 1796 to 1807, whose will is registered in Glasgow on20oct1826. Information from Glasgow University. The marriage of Helen McCaul was 19jan1795 (IGI); she was born abt 1774 at Glasgow (Latter Day saints submission). Helen McCaul, relict of Robert Cowan, surgeon, was buried at Old Barony church 8dec1825 (LDS film 1041482 OPR Barony).
