Harold married Mary Wainscott April 17, 1944.
Lieut. Harold Shaffer enlisted in the air corps Oct, 1942. He was a Co-pilot of a B-24 Liberator bomber and Sept. 14, 1944 while on a routine flight near Colorado Springs they crashed and all nine crewman lost their lives. The crash occurred about 30 mile from the Pueblo air base. Lt. Wilber Steinkamp of Columbus, IN was piloting the plane.
