Gertrude L. Fowles, 95, of 309 West College Street, and formerly of 339 West Pike Street, died Sunday, May 13, 1973 at 5 p.m. in the Thomas Convalescant Home, Canonsburg.
Born May 8, 1878, in Clarion County she was the daughter of R.M. and Orpha Whitehill Fowles.
She had resided in Canonsburg the past 30 years, and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Canonsburg. She was a retired school teacher in the Wilkinsburg School District and had served as principal of the McNair Elementary School. She had also been employed at the Canonsburg Daily Notes.
Miss Fowles was a charter member of Eastern Star Lodge Chapter 97.
Surviving are one sister, Margretta W. Fowles of Canonsburg; one nephew, Judge Daniel J. Snyder of Greensburg and one niece, Eleanor S. Rector of Grossepointe Woods, Mich. In addition to her parents, three sisters: Elwilda May Fowles, Zella Belle Fowles and Winifred F. Snyder and one brother Erred Drew Fowles, are deceased.
