Gerrit Jouw Feringa
As a son of Gerard Evert Feringa, who owned a shop selling clothing and textiles in Holwerd, Gerrit started working in de shop after finishing his edjucation.
During the beginning of the second world war, he married Klaaske Rollingswier, due to gasoline being unavailable the car was pulled by horses.
Gerrit suffered from an hip injury, preventing him from being drafted to work for the German occupiers.
During the war and occupation by the Germans, together with his father, he was a key figure in the arranging shelter for Jewish people fleeing from the south for the Germans.
While he was transporting the children, and later on "receiving" them in the store, his father would find the addresses for shelter
The store also was the distribution point for the illegal newspapers in the region during the occupation
After the war, he was, just like his father, involved in many organisations, many of them involving music, in his spare time he would teach those intrested how to play the drums.
A news article reveales him saving another boy from drawning somewhere in the late fourthies or early fifties

Later he was decorated for his work as a volunteer
He was also dedicated to being a driver/chauffeur for those injured during the war during trips and meetings.
