He married at Trowbridge, Wiltshire, 14 or 15 April 1624, Margery Hayward, daughter of Hugh and Joanna (Sissell) Hayward. He was at Trowbridge, 1624-1625, and on 16 July 1626 was admitted a burgess of Bristol, where he lived in the parishes of St. John the Baptist and St. Nicholas. He was perhaps at Lynn, Massachusetts, in 1638. By 1640 he was in Salem, where he had a house and lot, and on 4 April 1640 he was appointed surveyor of fences there. On 23 May 1641 he was admitted to the Salem church. He was in court on 31 March 1640/1 in a land dispute with William Pester; on 29 June 1641 he was charged with trespass by Joseph Robinson and, in a separate case on the same date, again charged with trespass by William Browne.
