- ↑ George Taylor married Ida Mae Henderson, a widow who already had some children from a previous marriage. George and Ida had Aurie Maxine Taylor, from whom there is a nice size set of descendants. George and Ida lived in or around Cloud County all their lives and were farmers. Most of the descendants were down around Wichita in the 1980's and 90's.
George must have had a hard time of it in the early part of the 1900's. In 1910, he owned a farm. In 1920, he is boarding with his sister.

He is batching with brother Robert. Both speak English, are engaged in general farming, says George owns this farm with a mortgage. I looked through the whole township, I didn't see any family names to give any indication as to why they are out in Graham County. He was back in Cloud Co some time after this period. Was in the 1920 census with his sister's family.

- ↑ FAMILY LETTER NO. 1
Salina Feb 24, 1898
Dear folk
I will try and answer your letter.
Well, it is a little lonesome down here without Russ.
I moved up to the School building last monday. I have to pay 60 cents for a room up here. We get the the light furnished and heat. I expect it would cost more the 10 cents a week for coal. We just ran out of coal before Russ left.
I like it pretty well so far. I am rooming with Karl.
I expect you had better sell Cricket if you can get enough for her for I will need some money.
It has been such nice weather. It makes me feel a little lazy.
I got a letter from Russel this evening. He said he hadn't seen any of you folks yet.
Was you up to Therian's sale? Is he going to move back to town again? Did the the thing sell well?
Have you commenced farming any yet?
How are my hogs getting along?
Well, I will close for this time.
Write soon
Yours truly
George

Editor's Notes:
I don't believe either Karl or Russ are family. Cricket is probably a horse.
Salina is maybe 50 miles south of Concordia.. the nearest "big" town. Not sure what George was doing there, maybe going to a school.
- ↑ FAMILY LETTER NO. 2
St. Peter, Kansas Sept 15th, 1907
Dear Folks:
I suppose Knud has got home by this time and told you all about the west. The wind is blowing hard and it is getting very dry. we intend to start sowing about Thursday if we get any (rain?).
Ted has been laid up the last week. Got Bitt by a rattlesnake. Got bit on the tongue. Hasn't ate anything for 4 days, but he is getting better. Bob killed nine rattlesnakes the first day he disked sod.
We owe Knud $6.80 yet. Pay him out of Bob's wheat that was the car fare.
Geo
PS Bob said he lost that coal bill but you can find out by Anderson's where he got the coal. Oh, yes they had a fire in Collyer night before last. Burned down the livery Barn and two dwelling houses. Got very near to the Post Office.
Editor's Notes:
Geo is George Taylor, one of the children of Edwin and Hulda (Beaty) Taylor.
Don't know who Knud was. I'm guessing "Ted" was George's dog.
Marjorie remembered the Taylor's having some kind of farming operation in Collyer that Bob and George farmed. Don't know if it was owned by the Taylor's or rented. It does not appear in Hulda's probate papers, so the parents didn't own it. They abandoned or sold it sometime after Hulda died when they came back to Concordia. Bob then took over the Taylor Home Place, and Fred went over to farm the Millirons place.
Don't know where St Peter, Kansas, is in relation to Collyer at this time.

St. Peter, a village of Graham county, is located in Bryant township, 18 miles southwest of Hill City, the county seat, and 11 miles south of Morland, the nearest shipping point. It has a number of general stores, a hotel, churches, professional men and a money order postoffice. The population in 1910 was 50.
- ↑ OBITUARY: Probably a Cloud Co, paper: "GEORGE A. TAYLOR George A. Taylor was born Aug 26, 1878, and died at his home near Macyville, Aug 14, 1935, aged 57 years, 11 months, 19 days.
