Notes: His granddaughter said that he held and maintained farms for Japanese friends who were interned during WWII, and after the war not only returned their land but returned all the profits he'd made from the land and held aside for them. (She said that made some of the other farmers mad, because they returned the lands but kept the profits.)

When he died, his estate, comprising stocks and several promissory notes, was valued at $215,000 (that's nearly $2 million in inflation-adjusted 2021 dollars).

  3. This house, which was still extant in 2024, was pointed out to me by Candace Scheideman (granddaughter). The address is confirmed in the 1950 US Census. The 1940 US Census shows them at 1141 S. Stockton, but I suspect the house just got renumbered. The block is a bit wonky with regard to 1100/1200 numbers. (Note in 1940, Isaac/Ike Scheideman is at 1126, and in 1950 he is at 1226.)
