Last Friday afternoon while George Montieth... were taking inventory at the Pulaski Lumber Co. on Maple AV they heard a creaking above and ran from the building just before the elevated roof crashed down. Monteith, 64, of Wine Creek Apartments died Wednesday at Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital, Syracuse. A native of Orwell, Mr. Monteith moved to Oswego in 1991. He retired in 1991 after 20 years with the town of Orwell Highway Department and previously was employed several years with Pulaski Lumber Co. He also owned and operated a dairy farm. Mr. Monteith was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Surviving are his wife, Helen J.; two sons, Gregory E. and Ernest J., both of Scriba; three daughters, Pauline J. Scheinert and Pamela G. Combs, both of Oswego, and Georgia M. Monteith of Volney; four brothers, John B. of Mexico, Roy E. and Edward B., both of Redfield, and Robert R. of Mexico; four sisters, Alice Babcock of Redfield, Gertrude Smith of Mapleview, Beverly Newton of Taberg and Janice Wood of Orwell; four grandchildren... Services will be... Saturday at Foster-Hax Funeral Home, Pulaski, the Rev. Thomas Howell officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Orwell. References
