The following is an excerpt from a 2-page document written by Olga Holl, daughter of George William Holl, Jr., and Maria Emilia Holtkamp.

"George and John [HOLL] left Germany in October 1867 from Schwartzenhasel to Bremer-Haven, spent 14 weeks on a sailboat to NYC where they landed with 30 cents between them. From NYC the brothers tramped and worked and walked until they got to the center of Pennsylvania when they wrote their cousin, Jacob Knierim, at New Knoxville, who sent them money to take a train the rest of the way."

"George Holl started a shoe shop, making new boots and shoes as well as repairing shoes, and in 1870 [1869] married Julia Ann Arnett, a schoolteacher who was crippled. After they had a son the mother and son died and are buried on the Arnett cemetery, 1 1/2 miles south of Moulton. In 1873 [1874] he married Elizabeth Luft."
