After marriage, he moved to Middletown, CT where he was made a freeman on 18 May 1654. In 1656, he was chosen deputy to the General Court. He served as Marshall of the colony for several years and was apopinted to measure the bounds of Wethersfield, CT on 10 Oct 1667.
