Duncan; Waterloo Press; Jan 13, 1870. On Saturday, Jan 8th, at his residence in Smithfield township, died after a few days severe illness, George J. Duncan, aged 66 years, 5 months, 17 days. He was born in Washington Co, PA. Married March 15, 1825 to Mary Baxter with whom he lived 45 years, until the sacred tie was severed by death. On the 10th his remains were taken to Barker's Chapel (to the erection of which he and his sons contirbuted so largely) followed by his aged and infirm widow, seven sons, two daughters, two sons-in-law, ten grandchildren, numerous relatives and a large gathering of friends. After appropriate services, by the writer, he was taken to the cemetery at Hamilton, where, after a life of hard toll and labor he sleeps near his beloved son and two daughters. He now rests from his labors, and his work will follow him. "Faith sees the bright eternal doors Unfold to make His children way They shall be clothed with endless life, And shine in everlasting day." Edward Barker |
