George BUCHANAN was b. 1728 and d. 20jul1762 (Burke's landed gentry, 1952) aged 34 (Provosts of Galsgow). George Buchanan of Mount Vernon married Lilias DUNLOP in 1750. Lilias was b. 1729 (A. Duncan). George Buchanan married Lilias DUNLOP 23sep1750 at Glasgow (IGI). George was a Virginia merchant. George built as his town residence the famous “Virginia mansion” at the top of Virginia St. (Old Glasgow Exhibition) A portrait of George Buchanan of Mt Vernon (1729-1762) was lent to Old Glasgow Exhibition by Sir David Carrick-Buchanan, KCB, of Drumpellier. Lilias was daughter of James Dunlop of Garnkirk but not sister of Provost Colin Dunlop (b. 1706) as claimed by "Minute book of the Board of Green Cloth" (1891), and "Curiosities of Glasgow citizenship".
