George BELL born 19jul1837 at Glasgow (vital records), died 11apr1865 at 4 Windsor Terrace (now Kirklee Terrace), Glasgow (newspaper) or 21aug1865 (family letters). In Scottish Archives there is the will registration of „George Bell 21aug1865, accountant and stockbroker at 108 West George St., Glasgow. Brother of Benjamin Barton Bell“. In an obituary of his uncle, David Bell, George is mentioned as a man whose political essays and disquisitions attracted considerable attention. He lived at 10 South Portland Sq., Glasgow and possibly later at 108 West George St. In 1861 he was a director of Park Church Literary Institute. He may have been general manager of Frame’s Insurance Co., Gordon St., Glasgow (family letters). At the time of his death he was hon. Secretary of the Clyde Yacht Club. Benjamin Bell (b. 1840) was at Bellevue Mansion House, Cathcart, Renfrewshire (!) in 1841, with Elisabeth (b. 1816), Stuart (b. 1801), George (b. 1838) and 1 servant (census). In 1851 Elizabeth Barton (b.1781 Greenock, Renfrewshire), head, lived with children Phillip Barton (b.1809 Glasgow), Elizabeth Bell (b.1816 Glasgow) and (grand)children George Bell (b. 1838, Glasgow), Benjn M. Bell (b. 1840 Glasgow) and (female) Stewart E. Bell (b. 1842 Glasgow) at 10 Portland St., Gorbals, Glasgow (census). In 1861 Mrs. Elizabeth Barton (b. 1779 Greenock), Phillip Barton (b.1802 Glasgow), Elizabeth B. Bell (b.1815 Glasgow), all proprietors of houses, and George Bell (b. 1838 Glasgow), accountant, Ben Berton Bell (b. 1841 Cathcart, Lanarkshire), clerk to commission agent, and Stuart Bell (b.1842 Cathcart) lived at 4 Windsor Terrace, Glasgow (census). PO Dir, 1860: George Bell, accountant and factor, agent for Royal Insurance Co., St. Mary’s Bldgs, 33 Renfield St., Queens Rooms, Clifton St., hse 4 Windsor Terr. In 1863 George Bell, accountant, stock and share broker, agent for Royal Insurance Co., 108 W. George St., ho. 4 Windsor Terr., St. George’s Rd.; Mrs. Benjamin Barton and Mrs. S. Bell also lived there (PO Dir). In 1864 George Bell of Blackhall, accountant, stock and share broker, agent for Royal Insurance co., 108 W. George St., hse 4 Windsor Terr. was in PO Dir. David Bell (1792-1863) drew up his will 11jan1860 at Glasgow adding Codicils on 1mar1861 and 11apr1862. He nominated and appointed as trustees Elizabeth Orr or Bell, wife, George Bell, accountant in Glasgow, nephew, James Orr, merchant, Glasgow, Matthew Walker, writer, Glasgow, Benjamin Barton Bell his nephew and John Hutchinson Kerr, elder son of John Ker Junior. Beneficiaries were, among others: Mrs. Elizabeth Barton or Bell, widow of his brother Mr. “Stewart” Bell, and after her death, Benjamin Barton Bell, her son, and Stuart Elizabeth Bell, her daughter, and George Bell, his nephew (scotlandspeople).
