- ↑ "TERRIBLE TRAGEDY-Frank Gieseck Blows His Brains Out With a ShotGunPresumably by accident, Frank Gieseck, aged about 45 yrs., a wealthyfarmer residing some 3 miles west of Pataskala on the Columbus Rd., blewthe top of his head off with a shot gun about 3 P.M. Tuesday. Mr.Gieseck had been speaking with his brother-in-law, Doss Wickcliff aboutkilling a disabled horse, and had taken his gun, a three barreled weapon- 2 shot gun barrels and a rifle from the house ostensibly for thepurpose of shooting an animal. It is stated that he remarked to hisfamily that the shells were fast in the gun and that he thought he wouldremove them. He stepped into the wood house and was there but a shorttime when the report of the gun was heard. A terrible picture wasrevealed when the door was opened. The body of the unfortunate man wasin a reclining position across some grain sacks while the tope of hishead was blown off and his brains were scattered about the place. Thegun was leaning against a box with a stick lying by its side. Theneighbors were aroused and the coroner summoned. The latter rendered averdict of accidental death. But one shotgun barrel had be discharged, the other as well as the rifle barrel, remained loaded. Mr. Gieseck isthe last male of the original Gieseck family, once prominent andinfluential in this neighborhood. He leaves a wife and 8 children. Thefuneral services will be held at the family residence at 1:30 P.M. suntime Thursday conducted by Rev. Pitkin, and burial in PataskalaCemetery."
