Facts and Events
[edit] BirthPrior to being married the first child of Samuel Zorge en Elisabeth Mentzel, Franciscus Anthonius Marinus Zorge (21 Feb 1843 in Haarlem), was born. In his birth certificate [1] it can be seen that the occupation of Anne Theodore Elisabeth Mentzel was that of a worker and she lived at the Achter Nieuwe Gracht in Haarlem. In the birth certificate Samuel Zorge was the one that declared the birth of his son and recognized him as his son and that of Anne Theodore Elisabeth Mentzel. However, Franciscus Anthonius Marinus Zorge was born out of wedlock. in his birth certificate it is written that he was born at 8:30 p.m. on 21 February 1843 in Haarlem. [edit] Moving with familyNext, we find Franciscus Anthonius Marinus Zorge, together with his family, in the census records of Amsterdam 1853-1863 [2]. Here he lived in the basement of Utrechtsche Dwarsstraat 233: We find several registrations for Franciscus Anthonius Marinus Zorge in the hospital in 1863 [4], 1866 [5] and 1867 [6]. We find the following information: After this we find a registration in the militia records [7] with the following information: We find a very remarkable record is the Westfries archive where we find a notary record [8]. In this record Franciscus Anthonius Marinus Zorge agrees to take over the National Militia service for a certain Klaas Kooimans, living in Andijk, who was selected for the National Militia. Klaas Kooimans promised to pay Franciscus Anthonius Marinus Zorge the sum of 250 Dutch guilders to fulfill his National Militia service, separated in parts: 50 guilders if he would pass the selection by the "militieraad", 25 guilders if passed by the corps and 4 guilders every week for fulfilling the service. It is apparent from the exclusion of National Militia that this sum was never paid. Selling one's service in the National Militia was not sledom done. For the poor this was a way to maken some money, but in the case of Franciscus Zorge he was too small and not selected. [edit] MarriageWe find several census records over the period 1874-1893 at the Nassaukade 340 from February 1883-June 1883 [9], Marnistraat 13 from September 1880-January 1881 [10], Nieuwe Leliestraat 59 from April 1882-February 1883 [11], Prinsengracht 750 from January 1883-November 1883 when they left to Rotterdam [12], Runstraat 22 from January 1881-April 1882 [13], Oude Looijersstraat 34 from January 1874-September 1880 [14] and Fokke Simonszstraat 24 from 24 December 1883-April 1884 in Amsterdam [15]. We find one registration in Rotterdam: Rottestraat 1 from 11 November 1883 till 8 December 1883 [16]. In most census records his occupation was mentioned as a bootmaker. All these census records are from the period after he married [17]. On 17 June 1874 at 31 years of age he married Carolina Petronella Nassette, 25 years old, without occupation, living in Amsterdam, daughter of Joannes Bernardus Nassette and Alida Maria Deijlius. Together with her he moved through Amsterdam through these many addresses. [edit] DeathIn the Amsterdam archives we can find the death certificate of Franciscus Anthonius Marinus Zorge [18].
