November 19, 1917 and went to be withthe Lord May 6, 2002 after a brief struggle with cancer. He diedpeacefully with his family around him in the Hospice Homeplacein Tyler, TX. The oldest of 10 children born to Eugene Pasco andAnnie Mae (Barclay) Kiser, E.P. as he was known to family andfriends in FL, left home at an early age to help support thefamily after his father died. He worked for the CCC (CivilConservation Corps) for several years before joining the U.S.Navy where he served on various merchant ships as a U.S. NavalArmed Guard. In a true act of heroism, he manned a life raftwhen his ship, the SS San Blas, was torpedoed in the Gulf ofMexico during World War II (June 16, 1942). He maneuvered theraft to bring aboard and save 13 other members of the crew. Theywere rescued June 29 by a U.S. Navy PBY after surviving on theraft for thirteen days. Gene moved to Seattle and married thelove of his life, Jeanne C. Mapes on March 10, 1946. They madetheir home in West Seattle until Jeanne's death on January 30thof this year. They were married almost 56 years. After raisingtheir son, Gene retired from his Naval Civil Service career of30 years. He and Jeanne spent a great deal of time enjoyingtheir RV on trips throughout the U.S. and Canada. Gene lovedfishing, gardening and finding ways to make things work, butmost of all he enjoyed helping family and friends in any waypossible. He took the Golden Rule a step further, as he wouldalways do for others better than he would for himself. A lovinghusband, father, brother and friend, he will be missed greatlyby all who loved him. Gene was preceded in death by his belovedwife, Jeanne, five brothers, Barnard, Colon, Eugene Lindsey,Harmon (Buddy) and Allard Kiser and two sisters, Lela Mae KiserAshley and Doris Kiser Fos. Survivors include his son anddaughter-in-law, Donald E. and Lana Kiser of Bellevue, WA, astepson Jimmie P. Joseph of Shelton, WA, two sisters BerthaBruton of Jacksonville, FL and Evelyn Sutton of Clyattville, GA,four grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and numerous nieces,nephews, and cousins. As a final chapter in his life here onearth, he was so pleased to go to Florida to attend a familyreunion just three weeks before his passing. A heartfelt thanksto all who made this possible. He is reunited with Mom and is inGod's hands now. We love you Dad, you will forever be in ourhearts and memories. Funeral arrangements entrusted to BleitzFuneral Home, Seattle. Graveside Services will be held at AcaciaMemorial Park, Seattle at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2002.
