    "Samuel Buckingham testified in Milford on 10 August 1674 that Mr. Anthony Hawkins stated in May 1664 in regards to Esther Thompson, 'This little girl sucked when I married my wife, she being so small, I delighted much in her. Her father had died before she was born, and she had no portion given her by him, but I have promised to give her twenty pounds' (Goodwin 263n)."

And also it appearing that the Hon. Thomas Welles by his last will gave the said Ann Howkins, his daughter, £20 since her Marriage with Mr. Howkins, This Court doe Order the £20 of the Estate willed Mrs. Howkins be paid to Hester Thompson. …"
