Visited Ester at her home with Gene and Kay Braught 24 June 2001 (at 2010 W. 4th Ave., Apt. 313, Indianola, IA : Phone (515) 961-8189). What a delightful time by all. She is nearly blind but in great spirits and otherwise in very good health for her age. She gave me several of her duplicate photos and items of family history. I obtained a tape recording and some photos of us also. Phoned her the summer of 2002 after learning that she had been hospitalized (but was then home). There were no children to this marriage. Esther had advised me by mail that they lived 11yrs (1945-1956) at a Walker, MN resort and that she was a Baptist. She next had lived at Box 922, Kimberling City, MO 65686, then at 201 Adams, Mulberry Terr. Apt. 19, Branson, MO 65616 before going to the above address. They had run fishing lodges for years and loved that life. Talked with Gertie today (12 Feb. 2002) to receive report death of Leona Brunk Braught and she advised that Esther was in bad condition at an Indianola, IA nursing home. Dan and Esther owned a fishing resort near Kimberly City, MO, then Dan retired from Rollins Hosiery Mill and Esther retired from Look Magazine. Barbara Braught Olson reported July 2003 that she heard how Esther learned of sister Gertie's death and almost simultaneously entirely lost her sight (already very poor). When advised that she should move to a nursing home (which she abhored), she refused to eat and literally starved herself to death in a few days.
