About Elizabeth See

Elizabeth See, daughter of Frederick See and Catherine Vanderpool, was abducted with her mother and several siblings in the "Muddy Creek Massacre" in Greenbrier County, Virginia in 1763. She remained in captivity of the Shawnee Indians for several years, became the wife of Young Cornstalk, a Shawnee Indian Chief, and had two children with him. After the death of Young Cornstalk and her release in abt. 1775, she married 2nd, John Peter Shoemaker abt. 1776.

WV - died 1807, Adams County OH. - daughter of Catherine Vanderpool & Frederick See, adopted 1763, returned to whites about 1775, wife of 1st, 1769, Young Cornstalk/44-15/16th Chalakatha-Mekoche-Metis, 2nd, 1776, John Peter Shoemaker/50 -white, mother with Young Cornstalk of White Wing/70 & Cornstalk (3)/72 - both 15/32nd Chalakatha-Mekoche-Metis, with (John Peter) Shoemaker of several children.

    Excerpt: There is little, too, regarding the youngest Elizabeth. But a tattered copy of Reverend John Anderson's marriage records from 1776 to about 1785 gives Peter Tho- or Sho- to Elizabeth Lee (See) in January 1776.
